Scaling a US Multi-Brand Footwear Retailer on Google Ads

Client

The client is a US footwear e-commerce retailer carrying a broad multi-brand catalog across styles and price points — competing in one of the most search-intensive categories in online retail.

Challenge

Footwear retailers face distinct hurdles. The online market is highly competitive, so standing out among countless options is hard. Seasonal demand shifts throughout the year, affecting sales consistency. Managing a diverse range — many brands, styles and sizes — adds complexity to campaign structure and optimization. And because footwear is fashion-driven, visually appealing, high-quality images are essential to attract customers and drive engagement.

Approach

WeAdU's footwear expertise translated directly into strategy:

  • Performance Max with feed-only Asset Groups per product type. We started each product type feed-only to prioritize Google Shopping — high conversion rates — and gather data on high-intent shoppers, with product-specific Dynamic Remarketing. Once an Asset Group had enough conversions, we added headlines, descriptions, images and later video to expand into Search, Display, YouTube and Discovery.
  • Granular product segmentation and bidding. Segmenting by brand, price range and seasonality, we identified high-value clusters (e.g. premium sneakers, winter boots) and optimized bids to capture high-intent traffic and maximize return.
  • Footwear-trend ad messaging. Copy reflected seasonal trends and lifestyle cues — "limited edition", "eco-friendly materials", "ideal for urban adventures" — lifting CTR and conversions across segments.
  • Precision audiences. Affinity, in-market and custom audience layers built profiles like eco-conscious buyers or fashion-forward millennials, raising engagement.
  • Footwear-specific feed management. We enriched the Shopping feed with size, color, material and clear, high-quality images so products matched search queries and gained visibility.
  • Localized targeting, seasonal inventory and cross-channel remarketing. Regional bids and copy, seasonal prioritization (winter boots in colder months, summer sandals when warm) and cross-channel remarketing on Display, YouTube and Shopping re-engaged interested shoppers.
  • Competitive benchmarking, promo alignment and LTV strategies. Benchmarking against footwear metrics, ad spend timed to peak discount periods, and personalized ads for repeat buyers raised lifetime value while reducing acquisition costs.

A note on our track record

WeAdU is the current home of a Google Ads practice founded in 2002 by Jean-François Pen. Over more than two decades, that practice has operated as a freelance consultancy and through several companies founded and led by Jean-François — including Arasaka, Y Commerce, Generads and KEYWY LLC — as he relocated internationally. The company names changed; the practitioner, the method and the accountability never did. Results, case studies and client testimonials on this site may therefore reference campaigns delivered under those earlier structures. Every engagement cited was personally managed by the same leadership that operates WeAdU today. All figures are drawn from real advertising account data. Where clients are not named, it is to respect their confidentiality.
