+18% Conversions — Scaling a US Kids' Cooking Subscription Box

Client

The client is a US subscription-box service that inspires kids to learn about cooking and healthy eating — monthly boxes with step-by-step cooking guides, educational activities and curated ingredients.

Challenge

The client's biggest hurdle was standing out in a crowded subscription market, competing with large meal-kit services and other kids' brands. That meant refining audience targeting and communicating a clear value proposition. Seasonality mattered too — back-to-school and holidays demand smart budget timing. On top of that, the client needed to lower customer acquisition cost while improving retention (many signed up for one-off boxes), and make sure ads reached high-intent shoppers, not casual browsers, to protect ROAS.

Approach

We combined data-driven strategy and proven best practices to scale the client's campaigns while keeping them profitable.

  • Performance Max with category Asset Groups: Dedicated groups for "Monthly Subscription Boxes," "One-Time Gift Purchases" and "Educational Cooking Kits," starting feed-only for Shopping and Dynamic Remarketing, then expanding into Search, Display, YouTube and Discovery.
  • Competitive keywords & differentiation: High-intent terms like "kids cooking kits" and "educational subscription boxes," with ad copy built around the client's interactive, family-bonding value versus generic meal kits.
  • Audience segmentation & lookalikes: First-party segments ("First-Time Visitors," "Abandoned Cart Users," "Loyal Subscribers"), Customer Match and Similar Audiences to reach parents interested in educational products.
  • Device-specific ads: Mobile ads pushed quick sign-ups ("Get Your First Box Today!"); desktop ads carried more educational detail.
  • Seasonal promotions: "Back-to-School Cooking Kits" and "Holiday Gift Subscription" offers with extensions to add urgency and lift CTR.
  • Dynamic remarketing & cart recovery: Personalized ads and exclusive discount codes to bring back mid-signup drop-offs.
  • A/B testing: Creative testing found that "Kids Learn While They Cook!" messaging improved conversions by 18% versus standard promotional copy.
  • YouTube video ads: Short, engaging clips of kids cooking with the client boxes, plus AI-driven bid adjustments and continuous budget optimization.

Results

With these strategies, the client scaled its Google Ads while keeping a strong ROAS. Performance Max, audience segmentation and seasonal promotions drove higher conversion rates and a lower customer acquisition cost. Smart keyword targeting and remarketing put ads in front of the right parents at the right time, and YouTube video ads lifted brand awareness — feeding a steady rise in new subscribers. The outcome: a stronger market position, meaningful revenue growth and a loyal customer base that values hands-on, educational cooking for kids.

A note on our track record

WeAdU is the current home of a Google Ads practice founded in 2002 by Jean-François Pen. Over more than two decades, that practice has operated as a freelance consultancy and through several companies founded and led by Jean-François — including Arasaka, Y Commerce, Generads and KEYWY LLC — as he relocated internationally. The company names changed; the practitioner, the method and the accountability never did. Results, case studies and client testimonials on this site may therefore reference campaigns delivered under those earlier structures. Every engagement cited was personally managed by the same leadership that operates WeAdU today. All figures are drawn from real advertising account data. Where clients are not named, it is to respect their confidentiality.
