Improving ROAS for a US Yoga & Activewear Retailer

Client

The client is a US e-commerce retailer specialising in yoga apparel and activewear accessories — a competitive niche where product visibility and search intent alignment drive conversion.

Challenge

Optimising Google Ads campaigns for clothing retailers like the client presents unique challenges. The online apparel market is highly competitive, making it difficult to stand out and capture attention. Seasonal demand fluctuations require dynamic campaign adjustments throughout the year. Clothing ads must emphasise visual appeal with high-quality images, demanding meticulous creative management. Customer concerns about fit and sizing also affect conversion rates, and the fast-paced evolution of fashion trends calls for agile marketing to keep the brand relevant and engaging.

Approach

To overcome these challenges and drive growth, we implemented a comprehensive strategy that combined proven techniques from successful Google Ads campaigns in the clothing industry.

  • Performance Max with Asset Group segmentation: One feed-only Asset Group per product type prioritises Google Shopping — the top network for conversion rate — and gathers quality data on interested buyers, with Dynamic Remarketing showing product-specific ads to past visitors. Once an Asset Group generates enough conversions, we add more assets to expand into Search, Display, YouTube and Discovery on high-quality conversion data.
  • Category-specific audience signals: Audience signals tailored to each product category guided Google's AI toward the most relevant audiences, sharpening targeting precision and improving ROAS.
  • Device-specific ad group segmentation: In Search and Display, separate ad groups for mobile and desktop let us tailor headlines and descriptions to each format — optimising display across devices and reinforcing a professional, trustworthy brand image.
  • High-quality visuals and compelling product descriptions: High-resolution images and engaging descriptions highlighted each garment's unique features and benefits. In apparel, visual appeal is critical — strong imagery and persuasive copy attract shoppers and drive clicks and conversions.
  • Dynamic Search Ads (DSA): DSA captured additional search queries not covered by existing keywords, dynamically matching searches with relevant products to expand reach.
  • Seasonal and trend-based adjustments: We monitored fashion trends and seasonal demand shifts, adjusting bids and creatives to stay relevant, capitalise on peak interest and maximise engagement.
  • Remarketing strategies: Remarketing campaigns re-engaged users who had visited the site but not converted, keeping the brand top-of-mind and encouraging them to return and complete their purchase.
  • Ad extensions: Sitelink, callout and structured snippet extensions added information and visibility, improving click-through rate (CTR) and overall ad performance.
  • Conversion tracking and data analysis: Comprehensive conversion tracking monitored user actions and campaign performance, providing the insight needed for data-driven decisions and continuous optimisation.
  • Feed optimisation: We kept the product feed regularly updated with accurate titles, descriptions, prices and availability — reducing disapprovals and enhancing user trust.

Results

By implementing these strategies, we successfully scaled the client's Google Ads campaigns, achieving significant growth while maintaining a strong ROAS. Our tailored approach addressed the unique challenges of the clothing industry, driving increased visibility, engagement and conversions for the brand.

A note on our track record

WeAdU is the current home of a Google Ads practice founded in 2002 by Jean-François Pen. Over more than two decades, that practice has operated as a freelance consultancy and through several companies founded and led by Jean-François — including Arasaka, Y Commerce, Generads and KEYWY LLC — as he relocated internationally. The company names changed; the practitioner, the method and the accountability never did. Results, case studies and client testimonials on this site may therefore reference campaigns delivered under those earlier structures. Every engagement cited was personally managed by the same leadership that operates WeAdU today. All figures are drawn from real advertising account data. Where clients are not named, it is to respect their confidentiality.
